Hello Liz,

Its your business, but are you self-employed?

You have registered as self-employed. Self-employed people are normally sole traders, in partnerships or limited liability partnerships.

Some company directors think they are self-employed as they own the business.

  1. If you are a company director rather than self-employed, you may need to make changes to your registration. If this is you, find out more about limited companies by watching our online presentation: Company directors - understanding your responsibilities to HMRC

  2. Check you have the right legal structure for your business by watching our short YouTube video: Choosing the Right Legal Structure

  3. Read about the different ways to set up businesses at: www.gov.uk/business-legal-structures
