Hello Liz,

The tax year what happens when?

Now youre in business you need to know when you will get your first tax return and when to send it back to HMRC.

Every tax year ends on 5th April and the next year starts on 6th April.

So, whenever your business starts during the tax year, the next 6th April is when you should start preparing to send your tax return back to us.

This means if you started your business in January 2014 you start preparing in April 2014. But if you started in May 2014 it will be April 2015.

Then you have two key dates for getting your tax return back 31st October or 31st January.

Find out more about your important dates here: Self Asessment deadlines - GOV.UK

Look out for your next email on payment dates coming soon.
