Devolution - Get Involved and Have Your Say

Have your say on Devolution

Devolution has been in the news quite a bit lately. You may have heard about the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ and the ‘Midlands Engine’ which both come with promises of increased spending and local decision-making about everything from transport to health.

At its heart, devolution is a simple concept - it means devolving decision-making, usually from London, to local places. The evidence from other countries shows that doing this helps local economies and improves the performance of public services.

Core Cities like Nottingham have been invited by the Government to negotiate deals for their areas.

Nottingham has joined together with other local authorities in the North Midlands to negotiate a deal which, if agreed, will stimulate the economy, create jobs and improve transport links with the rest of the country. You can find details of the North Midlands Devolution proposals here:

We want to find out what you know and think about devolution. What decisions do you think should be devolved to a local level? Which decisions should remain in Westminster? Would you be happy if Nottingham City Council was given powers to lower and raise taxes to pay for local services?

We are holding two discussion groups for Nottingham citizens who would like to have their say about devolution. If you would like to be involved, you must be a Nottingham City resident and you will need to be available to attend one of the following sessions:
