Light Night

Nottingham prepares to shine for Robin Hood Energy Light Night

Light Night returns to the city on Friday 5 February, with over fifty wonderful free activities to be enjoyed.

The annual event, which is facilitated by Nottingham City Council, runs from 4pm till late, with a focus on fun free events, many of which are put on by local businesses, community groups and churches.

This will be the ninth year that Light Night has taken place in Nottingham, and the 2016 event is sponsored by Robin Hood Energy

Wollaton Hall

Wollaton Hall officially one of Britains top three historic houses

Readers of LandLove magazine have voted Wollaton Hall, Gardens and Deer Park as one of their top three tourist destinations in Britain.

The popular local attraction owned and run by the City Council came second in the poll ahead of Holkham Hall and Estate in North Norfolk and just behind the winner Powis Castle and Garden in Mid Wales.

Dolly Parton

Thousands of books donated to Nottingham Children through Dolly Parton Charity

A campaign to encourage more parents to read with their children by providing free books to families in Nottingham is celebrating National Storytelling Week with the announcement that it has reached a major milestone.

Nottingham City Council has been working alongside the Rotary Club of Nottingham to co-ordinate fundraising since it chose to back Dolly Partons Imagination Library in the city in 2012. In May 2015 council staff began donating monthly from their wages and holding fundraising drives, and have so far raised nearly 15,000. The overall total raised since 2012 is 213,000, enough to give out more than 39,000 books.

Exciting new waste exhibition celebrating creative upcycling launches in Nottingham

Trash to Treasure is a series of innovative exhibitions featuring artwork and everyday objects which have all been created from waste. Launching on Friday 5 February, it is the brainchild of knowtrash who have a unique collection of more than 4,000 contemporary upcycled artefacts from more than 30 countries.

Nottingham City Council, Arts Council England, knowtrash, City Arts, Playworks, Nottingham Trent University, Lace Market Gallery, intu Broadmarsh and Central College have come together to host the exhibitions across a series of city centre venues until the end of March.

Cycle Corridor

Consultation on the Southern Cycle Corridor opens

The second phase of Nottingham City Councils proposed 6.1m Cycle City improvements is being planned and residents and businesses along the route will be the first to have their say.

The Southern Cycle Corridor builds on cycle improvements already introduced as part of the extension of NET to Clifton, which help cyclists travel alongside and around the tramway safely and easily. This new cycle corridor will connect existing sections along the tram route and along other paths which will run from the city centre to Clifton, Clifton South P&R with a link to Nottingham Trent Universitys Clifton campus.

Bulwell Community Cafe

New community cafe serves up a treat

A new community caf, serving great home cooked food has opened at Bulwell Childrens Centre.

Crabtree Community CAF not only serves food but it gives local people the chance to come and get advice and help. Theyve teamed up with Welfare Rights, who run sessions along with the Job Centre.

People in the local community can also go there for nutrition workshops with Love Food, Hate Waste, who help people to make their food go further and throw less away.
