New dawn for Nottingham taxi services

A bright new era for taxi services is dawning in Nottingham, as plans to green the fleet and make the service a customer-friendly part of the citys world-class transport network get underway.

Nottingham City Councils Taxi Strategy was launched this year to modernise the taxi fleet and improve the customer offer, not just around comfort and safety, but also around the environmental impact of taxi emissions.



Council urges smokers to stub it out for Stoptober

Stoptober, the 28-day challenge that runs each year in October, targets people who would like to stop smoking and provides them with the help and support to do it.

The annual call-to-quit is organised each year by Public Health England and promoted in Nottingham by the City Council and New Leaf, the local stop-smoking service. It is based on the idea that smokers who stop for 28 days are five times more likely to pack up for good.



Joint library offer launched as part of Derby Nottingham Metro

Since Monday 2 October 2017, Nottingham library users can borrow stock from Derby libraries and vice versa. Customers can also return stock to either a Derby or Nottingham City library, irrespective of which library they borrowed the item(s) from. Membership will bring with it full access to both authorities library stock and services including e-resources and computers.



Hoodwinked: seeking Robins merry band of sponsors

Businesses are invited to find out more about joining the merry band of sponsors for the spectacular Hoodwinked art trail in Nottingham next summer.

Hoodwinked will celebrate the legend of Robin Hood with a free sculpture trail through the city from July to September 2018. Businesses and organisations are encouraged to sponsor a sculpture inspired by our local legend and engage their customers and employees to enjoy Nottinghams creativity.

The Hoodwinked trail provides a distinctive modern-day take on the traditional tales of our iconic outlaw


Green Nottingham

Nottingham City Councils green buildings are in the running for two national sustainability awards

Nottingham City Councils Headquarters Loxley House and Minvers Sport Centre in Aspley have been shortlisted for two prestigious awards.

Minvers Sport Centre is a finalist in the Solar Power Portal Energy Awards, in the best use of solar in a community-setting category. The sports centre received a solar rooftop and state-of-the-art LED lighting. Works have significantly reduced the buildings carbon footprint, improved the internal lighting and reduced the energy bill by over 6,000 a year.
