Special preparation claims for LGFS and AGFS work

The LAA has announced that from 1 September, all claims for special preparation within the litigators' and advocates' graduated fee schemes will be handled by the High Cost Crime team. This will cover claims for considering electronic evidence. Claims should still be submitted in the usual way.

Revised payments for VHCC care cases

The LAA has announced that all very high cost case (VHCC) care cases with one advocate or solicitor-advocate will normally be paid under a revised fixed-fee model from 1 October.

Test case forces change to civil merits test

Following the recent High Court ruling in the IS case that the civil legal aid merits test was unlawful, the regulations have been amended so that legal aid may be provided for some cases that are assessed as having borderline or poor prospects of success.

Exceptional funding guidance in inquest cases

Revised guidance on civil legal aid funding in inquest cases has been published, following the Court of Appeal decision in the case of Letts v The Lord Chancellor.
