Law Society opposes changes to personal injury rules

We robustly oppose the government's plans to remove the right to recover general damages for soft-tissue injuries. Speaking at the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers' annual conference, Law Society chief executive Catherine Dixon spoke of our concerns that the proposed changes may have the effect of hampering access to justice for those seeking to claim compensation for injuries they have suffered through no fault of their own.

Brexit: Chancery Lane debaters agree on legal work bonanza, if on little else

Around 130 solicitors attended the Law Society last week to see shadow home office minister Keir Starmer QC MP, Berwin Leighton Paisner partner Chris Bryant, Lawyers for Britain chair Martin Howe QC and Wedlake Bell partner Clive Thorne participate in a heated debate on Brexit and its impact on the legal sector.

Unlawful and arbitrary detention of Turkish lawyers condemned by the Law Society

The chair of the Law Society Human Rights Committee has called for the UN to urge the Turkish authorities to withdraw all charges against the two lawyers who have been detained and to release them with immediate effect. The letter also calls for lawyers and human rights defenders in Turkey to be allowed to perform their professional duties without intimidation or improper interference.

Land Registry - new address for applications and correspondence from 27 May

On 27 May, Land Registry will change the PO Box and DX addresses of its central scanning centre. Customers must send their applications and correspondence to the new addresses on and after this date to avoid delays in achieving priority and processing applications.
