Remuneration for contempt proceedings - your chance to influence the MoJ's thinking

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is seeking responses from civil and criminal law practitioners to a pre-consultation questionnaire, the results of which will inform a forthcoming consultation on remuneration for contempt proceedings.

Paper forms will not be accepted for criminal legal aid applications after 4 July

CRM14 eForms will be mandatory for criminal legal applications from 4 July. Support is available to help those using paper forms switch to online working.

Crown Court fee guidance and local Bar travel allowances have been updated

The Legal Aid Agency has updated the Crown Court fee guidance to reflect the introduction of Better Case Management and the R v Jagelo (2016) costs decision. The list of local Bar travel allowances has also been revised to show current train fares and distances.

Civil Courts Structure Review with Lord Justice Briggs

Lord Justice Briggs' interim report on reforming the structure of the Civil Courts included proposals for an online court, which would have a profound impact on the way litigation is conducted in this country. Other issues he examined included appeal rights and a new role of case officer within the courts.
