Central & Local Government Urls listed,
Welcome to the latest edition of In-house forum, the Law Society's dedicated newsletter for lawyers working in-house in the corporate and public sectors, and for not-for-profit organisations and charities.
In-house Division Committee
The committee met in March, and among other topics, considered the importance of understanding how the in-house community fits into the overall Law Society strategy. Following on from this discussion, committee members are meeting Catherine Dixon, chief executive of the Law Society, Janice More, executive director of general counsel, and Mary Gledhill, executive director of Membership Services as part of the June meeting.
The committee is hoping to learn more about the Law Society's governance review, recent Council elections, and other strategic issues affecting in-house solicitors such as protecting legal professional privilege, separation of legal service regulators from legal professional bodies, and pro bono initiatives.
Our annual in-house conference will take place on 15 June at the Law Society in London. We look forward to seeing many of you at the conference, which will cover changing demands on the legal profession and ensuring an effective in-house department; alongside practical breakout sessions tailored to the different sectors.
We hosted a well-attended and successful event on 13 May in Manchester. The seminar provided advice and strategies on managing teams to develop in-house capacity and reduce external legal expenditure, and this followed other events in London and Leeds. We will continue to engage with our regions and planning is underway for other events later this year.
As always, please feel free to email us via with the In-house Division to give us your thoughts, to seek our support or just to connect.
