JLD responds to SRA proposals for a Solicitors' Qualifying Examination
Last year the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) published a consultation setting out proposals to introduce a common professional assessment for intending solicitors. The JLD and the Law Society support centralised assessment in principle provided that the level is set appropriately and does not result in a dilution of standards.
Junior Lawyer of the Year Excellence Award - deadline extended
Nominations are still open for the Law Society's Excellence Awards 2016, including the Junior Lawyer of the Year. The Law Society is looking for demonstrable evidence of an individual who has an exceptional standard of work as well as great dedication in their role. The closing date for nominations is Friday 3 June.
Best practice for work experience placements
The Law Society has published guidance for organisations in relation to work experience for aspiring solicitors, following research undertaken by the JLD.
Secondment opportunity in Brussels for trainees
The Law Society is offering trainee solicitors a unique opportunity to undertake a six-month secondment in the Law Society Brussels Office commencing in September 2016. The closing date for applications is Thursday 9 June.
Legal Pride 2016
On Saturday 25 June members of the legal professions will once again parade through the streets of London for Legal Pride 2016. They will be celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans (LGBT) diversity in the legal profession, under the banner 'All are equal under the law'.
Student Loan Scheme - funding postgraduate study
A new system of postgraduate loans for Masters degrees in the UK will be introduced from 1 August. Many LLM (Master of Laws) programmes now include an LPC qualification, and therefore may qualify for funding.
