Hello all! I hope you are enjoying the (almost) summer sun!
This month marks the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta - a charter which is widely celebrated as the foundation of the rule of law. We are looking forward to the festivities, and remind our members of the opportunity to volunteer in the Magna Carta Junior Lawyers in Schools programme.
Recommended minimum salary for trainee solicitors
Thank you to all of you who responded to the consultation on the recommended minimum salary for trainee solicitors - we had an unprecedented 1,565 responses! We are reviewing the responses with the Law Society, and hope to be able to update you with good news in the near future.
Stress at work
Unfortunately, we find that a key concern for many junior lawyers is stress at work. We work closely with LawCare and would encourage members who are facing stress, workplace bullying, or disputes with colleagues to call the LawCare helpline on 0800 279 6888.
We have also teamed up with Talaspect Training Development to deliver a series of three resilience and wellbeing workshops specifically aimed at junior lawyers. The events are free to attend and will be held in the evening at the Law Society in London.
Further information about the workshops
Law Society Council elections
The Law Society Council elections are under way and all members who are eligible to vote should have received ballot papers or an email notification from the Electoral Reform Services. I wish all the candidates the best of luck, and would encourage all members who have received their ballot papers or email to review the candidates' statements and vote.
JLD essay competition
If you are an LPC student, paralegal or trainee solicitor, please consider entering the JLD essay competition. The question this year is: 'Should there ever be a case for absolute anonymity in legal proceeding, and if so, why and for whom?' The deadline is 31 July and the winner will receive £500.
On Saturday 27 June, we will be celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans diversity in the legal profession under the banner 'Equality under the law' and promoting the message 'Legal heroes fighting for LGBT justice'. Please register to march with us at the PRIDE in London parade.
Law Society Excellence Awards
The deadline for nominations for the Law Society Excellence Awards 2015 has been extended to 12 June. If you were considering submitting a nomination and thought you had missed the boat then think again - you have until this Friday!
As always, please feel free to get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org or via one of our social media channels.
