August 2016

Dear members,

Since the EU referendum result on 24 June, the Law Society has provided information and advice to our members on the implications for the legal profession. Our Brexit webpage includes briefings for members and our latest statements.

Following the dismissal of 2,745 judges in Turkey after an unsuccessful coup, the Law Society issued an intervention letter and a press release in which it emphasised the importance of the rule of law. We will continue to monitor the situation of all members of the legal profession in Turkey.

Our events calendar is starting to fill up for the Autumn. Our flagship International Marketplace conference on 6 October focuses on future growth. Alongside industry experts sharing their views on the future of the legal services market, we will welcome delegations of lawyers from Africa, Latin America, Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and Asia. Sign up before 2 September for early booking discounts.

We are also preparing for the IBA annual conference in Washington DC, 18-23 September. Law Society office holders will speak on a number of panels on topics ranging from artificial intelligence and innovation, to relationships with in-house counsel and alternative business structures.
