New ADR rules delayed until November

Solicitors now have until 1 November 2015 to comply with an EU directive on alternative dispute resolution. The government has introduced further legislation and issued detailed guidance on the new rules. We will issue updated advice next week.

Society warns that LPP needs more protection

The Law Society and the Bar Council have warned MPs that the state should not have the power to eavesdrop on conversations between lawyers and clients, even in exceptional circumstances. We argue that current levels of protection are insufficient and legal professional privilege needs proper protection through primary legislation.

The House of Lords Secondary Legislation Scrutiny Committee has published a report on the government's criminal legal aid regulations after receiving a detailed account of the Law Society's concerns. Material provided by the Law Society highlights the difficulties caused by the drop in fees and the deviation from the timetable originally announced.
