Remembrance Sunday

poppy 1.jpgNewport's Garden of Remembrance, in Clarence Place, was opened in the presence of the Mayor, Councillor Herbie Thomas, on Monday, 2 November. This took place ahead of the annual service and parade to the Cenotaph which takes place on Remembrance Sunday on 8 November.

The parade will assemble in High Street at 10.30am before marching to the Cenotaph in Clarence Place.

The Bishop of Monmouth, the Right Reverend Richard Pain, will lead the service assisted by the Mayor's Chaplain, Reverend Canon Raymond Hayter.

It will begin just before 11am and will include the Last Post as well as the laying of wreaths.

Newport Pipe and Drums band will lead the parade with Newport Brass Band and City of Newport Male Choir also attending.

Friars Walk opening - less than a week to go!

friarswalklogo.pngIt's less than a week to go until Newport’s brand new retail and leisure complex, Friars Walk, will open.
 
On 12 November top names will be opening their doors in the city centre including Debenhams, Next, Topshop, Marks and Spencer, River Island, Mothercare, Nando's, TGI Friday’s, Wagamama, Las Iguanas, Frankie and Benny's and Cineworld plus many more.

Rent Smart Wales

rent-smart-wales-logo256x184.pngNew registration and licensing requirements for landlords under the Housing (Wales) Act 2014 come into effect from 23 November 2015.

From this date, if you rent out accommodation in Newport, or anywhere in Wales, private landlords are required to register and private landlords or their agents will need to obtain a licence from Rent Smart Wales.

Alzheimer's Society Memory Cafe

Every Tuesday from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Malpas Court, the Alzheimer's Society runs a Memory Cafe.

This is fun group runs activities, holds raffles and games, invites guest speakers and gives you a chance to meet new friends.An assessment from the Alzheimer's Society is required before you can join the group, please contact (01633) 665110 for more information.There is a cost of £3.50 - £4.00 for lunch, tea and coffee.
