You must be on the electoral register to vote in May

Rhaid i chi fod ar y gofrestr etholiadol er mwyn pleidleisio ym mis Mai

Residents in Newport will be going to the polls on May 5 to vote in two elections – to vote for regional and constituency Assembly members – and to choose a Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent.

But only those registered to vote can take part, and time is running out with residents needing to be signed up by April 18.

There are several ways people can apply to register to vote - online:www.gov.uk/register-to-vote by telephone to 01633 210744 (you will need your date of birth and National Insurance Number) or fill in paper registration forms if they prefer.

The form can be downloaded from the registration site or alternatively be requested from the local electoral services team in Newport on 01633 656656 or email uvote@newport.gov.uk and return it by the 18 April, the registration deadline.

Bydd trigolion yng Nghasnewydd yn mynd i bleidleisio ar 5 Mai i bleidleisio mewn dau etholiad – i bleidleisio dros Aelodau Cynulliad rhanbarthol ac etholaeth – ac i ddewis Comisiynydd Heddlu a Throseddu ar gyfer Gwent.

Ond dim ond y rhai sydd wedi cofrestru i bleidleisio sy’n gallu cymryd rhan, ac mae amser yn brin gan fod rhaid i breswylwyr gofrestru erbyn Ebrill 18.

Mae yna sawl ffordd y gall pobl ymgeisio i gofrestru i bleidleisio - ar-lein: www.gov.uk/register-to-vote,  dros y ffôn i 01633 210744 (bydd angen eich dyddiad geni a Rhif Yswiriant Gwladol) neu i gwblhau ffurflenni cofrestru papur os dyna sy’n well ganddynt.

Gall y ffurflen cael ei lawrlwytho oddi ar y safle cofrestru neu fel arall ar gais oddi wrth y tîm gwasanaethau etholiadol lleol yng Nghasnewydd ar 01633 656656 neu e-bost uvote@newport.gov.uk a'i dychwelyd erbyn 18 Ebrill, y dyddiad cau i gofrestru.

Is Your Dog Microchipped?  A yw eich ci â feicrosglodyn?

Dog owners in Newport are being urged to get their pets microchipped ahead of new legislation being introduced in Wales this month.

The Microchipping of Dogs (Wales) Regulations 2015 come into force on April 6 and follows a consultation by the Welsh Government which took place in April 2015.

Micro-chipping is an easy and painless process in which a small chip is inserted into a dog. The chip contains details of the pet, such as its name, breed and age, as well as contact details for the owners.

When a dog is found, it can be scanned by a warden, vet or rescue organisation that has a scanner and easily reunited with its owner – as long as it is chipped and the contact details are kept up to date.

Councillor Bob Poole, Newport City Council’s Cabinet Member for Regulatory Services said: "Overall, this legislation should lead to an improvement in animal welfare because it places more emphasis on dog owners to take more responsibility for their pets.

"Dog owners can contact their local vet about microchipping."

Mae perchnogion cŵn yng Nghasnewydd yn cael eu hannog i gael eu hanifeiliaid anwes wedi adnabod drwy feicrosglodyn cyn i ddeddfwriaeth newydd gael ei chyflwyno yng Nghymru'r mis nesaf.

Mae'r Rheoliadau Meicrosglodynnu Cŵn (Cymru) 2015 yn dod i rym ar 6 Ebrill ac yn dilyn ymgynghoriad gan Lywodraeth Cymru a gynhaliwyd ym mis Ebrill 2015.

Mae meicrosglodynnu yn broses hawdd a di-boen lle bod sglodyn bach yn cael ei fewnosod i'r ci.  Mae’r sglodyn yn cynnwys manylion yr anifail anwes, megis enw, brid ac oedran, yn ogystal â manylion cyswllt ar gyfer y perchenogion.

Os caiff ci coll ei ddarganfod, gall gael ei sganio gan warden, milfeddyg neu sefydliad achub sydd â sganiwr ac mae'n hawdd felly dod â nhw yn ôl i'w perchennog – cyhyd ag y mae manylion y sglodyn yn gyfoes.

Dywedodd y Cynghorydd Bob Poole, Aelod Cabinet Cyngor Dinas Casnewydd dros Wasanaethau Rheoleiddio:  "Yn gyffredinol, dylai'r ddeddfwriaeth hon arwain at wella lles anifeiliaid oherwydd mae'n rhoi mwy o bwyslais ar berchnogion cŵn i gymryd mwy o gyfrifoldeb am eu hanifeiliaid anwes.

'Gall perchnogion cŵn gysylltu â’u milfeddyg lleol ynghylch gosod meicrosglodion.'
