Newport hosting beacon event to mark Queen's birthday

Bydd Casnewydd yn cynnal digwyddiad goleufa i ddathlu'r pen-blwydd Brenhinol

Beacons are being lit through the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and overseas territories to celebrate The Queen's 90th birthday on Thursday 21 April.

Hundreds of local communities and organisations, including Newport City Council, are taking part in the celebrations.

Lord Lieutenant for Gwent, Brigadier Robert Aitken, CBE, DL, will light the Newport beacon in Queens Field, Ringland, and will read out a message from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.

Newport's Mayor Councillor Herbie Thomas will be among those attending the event.

Members of the public are invited to attend the event which begins at 8pm with the lighting of the beacon at 8.30pm.

Entertainment will be provided by Ringland Primary School and Greater Gwent Youth Brass Ensemble. If any other choirs or musical groups would like to take part, they can contact Jo Parcell on 01633 656656.

Parking in the area of the event is restricted so members of the public are asked to park safely and in a considerate manner away from the site and walk to the Queen's Field which is off Edward German Crescent and Butterworth Close.

The event will finish at about 9pm.

Caiff goleufannau eu cynnau ledled y Deyrnas Unedig, Ynysoedd y Sianel, Ynys Manaw a thiriogaethau tramor i ddathlu pen-blwydd y Frenhines sy’n troi’n 90 ar ddydd Iau 21ain Ebrill.

Bydd cannoedd o gymunedau a sefydliadau lleol, gan gynnwys Cyngor Dinas Casnewydd, yn cymryd rhan yn y dathliadau.

Bydd Arglwydd Raglaw Gwent, y Brigadydd Robert Aitken, CBE, DL, yn cynnau goleufa Casnewydd ym Maes y Frenhines, Ringland.  Bydd y Cynghorydd Thomas Herbie, Maer Casnewydd ymhlith y rhai sy’n mynychu'r digwyddiad.

Gwahoddir aelodau'r cyhoedd i fynychu’r digwyddiad sy’n dechrau am 7pm gyda chynnau’r goleufa am 7.30pm.  Bydd yn gorffen am 8pm.

Darperir adloniant gan Ysgolion Cynradd Ringland a Sant Gabriel.  Os hoffai unrhyw gorau neu grwpiau cerddorol araill i gymryd rhan, gallwch gysylltu â Jo Parcell ar 01633 656656.

Cofrestrwch i bleidleisio NAWR!

Residents in Newport will be going to the polls on May 5 to vote in two elections – to vote for regional and constituency Assembly members – and to choose a Police and Crime Commissioner for Gwent.

But only those registered to vote can take part, and time is running out with residents need to be signed up by April 18.

There are several ways people can apply to register to vote - online, www.gov.uk/register-to-vote by telephone to 01633 210744 (you will need your date of birth and National Insurance Number) or fill in paper registration forms if they prefer.

The form can be downloaded from the registration site or alternatively be requested from the local electoral services team in Newport on 01633 656656 or email uvote@newport.gov.uk and return it by the 18 April, the registration deadline.

The formal notice of both elections can be found online.

Bydd trigolion yng Nghasnewydd yn mynd i bleidleisio ar 5 Mai i bleidleisio mewn dau etholiad – i bleidleisio dros Aelodau Cynulliad rhanbarthol ac etholaeth – ac i ddewis Comisiynydd Heddlu a Throseddu ar gyfer Gwent.

Ond dim ond y rhai sydd wedi cofrestru i bleidleisio sy’n gallu cymryd rhan, ac mae amser yn brin gan fod rhaid i breswylwyr gofrestru erbyn Ebrill 18.

Mae yna sawl ffordd y gall pobl ymgeisio i gofrestru i bleidleisio - ar-lein, www.gov.uk/register-to-vote,  dros y ffôn i 01633 210744 (bydd angen eich dyddiad geni a Rhif Yswiriant Gwladol) neu i gwblhau ffurflenni cofrestru papur os dyna sy’n well ganddynt.

Gall y ffurflen cael ei lawrlwytho oddi ar y safle cofrestru neu fel arall ar gais oddi wrth y tîm gwasanaethau etholiadol lleol yng Nghasnewydd ar 01633 656656 neu e-bost uvote@newport.gov.uk a'i dychwelyd erbyn 18 Ebrill.

Gellir gweld yr hysbysiad ffurfiol o'r ddau etholiad ar-lein.

Roll out of smaller waste bins continues

Rhaglen newid am finiau sbwriel llai’n parhau

Newport City Council is continuing with its programme to replace the larger wheeled waste bins with more slimline versions, as part of its strategy to improve recycling participation and rates in the city.

The on-going roll out, which started in 2014, has already provided smaller bins to two thirds of city households to use for their non-recyclable waste, and they will continue to be collected fortnightly. This final phase of the rollout will ensure that all houses in the city have the same size bins.

Recycled items will continue to be collected weekly, with residents using the existing green and blue boxes, and recycling of all food waste in the brown caddies being collected by our partners Wastesavers.

If residents already have the slimline bin, this will not be replaced.

For more information and advice visit www.newport.gov.uk/recycling.

Mae Cyngor Dinas Casnewydd yn parhau gyda’i raglen i amnewid y biniau sbwriel olwynion mwy gyda fersiynau teneuach, fel rhan o’i strategaeth i wella cyfranogiad a graddau ailgylchu yn y ddinas.

Mae’r cynllun, a ddechreuodd yn 2014 ac sy’n parhau, eisoes wedi darparu biniau llai i ddwy ran o dair o gartrefi’r ddinas i’w defnyddio ar gyfer eu gwastraff na ellir ei ailgylchu, a byddant yn parhau i gael eu casglu bob pythefnos. Bydd cam olaf y cynllun yn sicrhau fod gan bob cartref yn y ddinas finiau o’r un maint.

Parheir i gasglu eitemau i’w hailgylchu bob wythnos, gyda thrigolion yn defnyddio’r blychau gwyrdd a glas sy’n bodoli eisoes, a chesglir yr holl wastraff bwyd yn y cadis brown gan ein partneriaid, Wastsavers.

Os oes gan drigolion fin tenau’n barod, ni fydd hyn yn cael ei newid.
