Stop England getting left behind

Dear Elizabeth

The Scottish Government has banned fracking.

This is a truly momentous win for the anti-fracking movement, with Scotland joining the ever-growing list of nations and regions putting a stop to this risky industry.

But while campaigners north of the border celebrate, England still faces the threat of fracking. In the UK, England now stands alone in supporting this industry, with large swathes of the country still at risk.

Now is the opportunity to make the ban national. If you don’t want to see England fall behind, please ask Westminster Energy Secretary Greg Clark to refuse consent to frack anywhere in the UK.

If fracking goes ahead in England it will damage our environment and contribute to climate change at a time when the UK must be reducing its carbon emissions. And in places like Lancashire, where fracking could go ahead against the wishes of local people, it undermines local democracy.

But yesterday’s news gives us hope.

The fracking ban will be met with celebration and relief across Scotland, particularly by those on the frontline who have been working for a ban these last 6 years. And it’ll be met with cheers in the many countries and communities around the world who have supported the struggle, many of whom are still fighting fracking.

The road to get here was long, but every action made a difference. So if you take a minute to email Greg Clark, we hope that before long we’ll be celebrating a victory south of the border too.

Thanks for all your support,

Anna & the fracking team
