Holy Helpfulness Batman!

This month we're looking out for real super heroes in Oxfordshire...

Unlike Gotham or Central City’s finest the hours are a lot more friendly. You don't have to fly, wear a suit or have a cape (if you don't want to).

All you need is a little time and a desire to make a difference!

Find the opportunity that matches your superpower below and assemble!

 For those with super speed…

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! it's you, in a car, helping local people get to appointments or the shops.
Superman does maths

Every new generation of superheroes needs a mentor…

Give your time and skills as a School Governor, or make a difference to young people’s lives by helping them to get their voices heard.

Calling all telepaths!

Do you have superhuman listening and communication abilities? Volunteer to organise activities like arts and crafts, or gardening at day centres across Oxfordshire.

Super strength

The Hill End team are looking for help with all sorts from cleaning the ponds, raking grass from the meadows, painting and decorating, to filling the bird feeders, or get involved with events and festivals.

There are lots of different opportunities to get involved in so whatever your skills are there’s something for you.

Eynsham's firefighters

Dry January

As if being electrocuted, crawling through mud and running for miles on end wasn’t enough, Eynsham’s firefighters are giving up alcohol for Dry January as a part of their training for Tough Mudder. Why not join them? You won’t even have to be tear gassed or plunged into ice cold water, just skip the booze for 31 days.
Lions playing with Christmas trees

Recycle your Christmas trees

Last year we loved the story of the zoo that gave their lions Christmas trees to chew on. Since Oxfordshire’s lion population hasn’t exploded since last January, you may be better off having it collected by your district council, or at one of our household waste sites.

Treasure found in Oxfordshire

Treasure finds on the rise

There’s gold in them there hills. Archeological gold that is; our Museum Service recorded 41 cases of treasure being discovered in 2015, including very rare Roman coins, and a flint handaxe dating to c.340-000-190,000 BC. So if you fancy yourself as an aspiring Indiana Jones, have a go at one of the clubs across the county

Additional Budget Savings

We’re sure you’ll be aware of our recent budget consultation, where we’ve asked for your thoughts on the £50m savings we need to make. The government funding announcement was worse than expected, and the council now has to find another £20m savings on top of the £50m saving options we consulted over before Christmas. Proposals for making these savings will be agreed by Cabinet on 26 January.
