Take the Bard with you on holiday

"If all the year were playing holidays, to sport would be as tedious as to work" said Shakespeare. We expect you've never had the chance to find out, but if you're heading off for a well deserved break, pop down to Oxfordshire’s libraries for their ‘A Midsummer Night’s Read’ as they launch a seasonal reading challenge for adults. Find out more in your local library
the route of the oxford flood alleviation scheme

Oxfordshire Flood Alleviation

It's a typical British summer, which means it's time to eat ice-cream and watch the tennis while the rain comes down in stair rods. So it's not entirely inappropriate to talk about flooding, and what we're doing about it. Following public consultation, the county council, in partnership with the Environment Agency and other local organisations, has unveiled the route for the Oxford Flood Alleviation Channel.

Visitors to the Town Hall in Oxford were the first to see displays of the route and speak to the experts about how it would be built and the next stages.

If you missed the event or the publicity in the media, you can find out more here.

Fight scam mail

Scams are more common than most people realise.  Every day our Trading Standards Team hear from people who have lost money to a scam-artist. Luckily you can help us fight back, and over the coming weeks we'll have boxes in local libraries to drop off scam mail that we can investigate and share with other Trading Standards services.

Tell us about the NHS Health Check

If you’re aged 40 or above, we need your help with a short survey we’re running to find out more about what people know about the NHS Health Check. We’ve worked hard to promote the scheme across Oxfordshire over the past three years and we’re interested to see what effect that’s had. Online until 7 July, it won’t take long and we’d really appreciate you taking the time to give us feedback:

The Great Oxfordshire Shake Up

The government is looking at new ways for councils to deliver services across the country, including in Oxfordshire. In some areas, the government is offering councils more control over funding of public services to help them support the local economy. There could also be changes to Oxfordshire's councils themselves. Come and chat to us on our market stalls, or check the website for more.
