Drumming World Record
   Guinness World Record  

West Lothian school pupils have set a brand new world record for the largest djembe drum ensemble. Four hundred and seventy six pupils from around West Lothian played djembe drums as part of the successful attempt to set the first ever Guinness World Record in this category. 

There was an electric atmosphere at Livingston Football Club’s stadium on Thursday 2 June as more than 700 pupils from 21 schools gathered to perform a unique percussion piece to set the new world record.

  Let's Blether! - Self-directed Support (SDS) Week  

West Lothian Council is supporting Self-directed Support's 'Blether Week', which takes place from Monday 13 June to Friday 17 June 2016.
Self-directed Support is the way in which the council delivers social care and support, such as personal care or day support. SDS applies to children, families, adults, older people and carers, and aims to give people information and choices about the way their support is provided.

  summer safe A public awareness campaign 'Summer Safe West Lothian 2016' has been launched by West Lothian Council and West Lothian Community Safety Partnership. The annual Summer Safe campaign aims to keep West Lothian's young people and children safe during the school holidays. The campaign highlights various ways that parents/carers can help to avoid accidents by talking about various issues with their children and teens and raising awareness of possible dangers.

  Beecraigs Country Park The county's three country parks play their part in enhancing the quality of life for local people as well as encouraging visitors to the area. Beecraigs Country Park is by far the biggest of the three country parks. For the team who carry out the maintenance and improvements, run the animal attractions and encourage visitors to use the park it is a year-round commitment.

  West Lothian Schools Pipe Bands success  
  Schools pipe band West Lothian Schools Pipe Bands picked up six trophies at the West Lothian Highland Games. Forty-three pipers and drummers represented West Lothian Schools Novice Juvenile B and Juvenile Bands. The Novice Juvenile B band was placed first in its grade, also winning the drumming and the best bass section awards. The Juvenile band was placed 2nd in the Juvenile Grade - winning the Marching and Discipline prize.  The band was also placed 4th when playing at a higher level in the Adult Grade Two.
