Work starts on £8.2 million Blackburn Partnership Centre
 
     
 

Construction work is underway for the new centre, which will create a hub for council, health and community services in the village. Located next to the Mill Centre, Blackburn Partnership Centre is a partnership between West Lothian Council and NHS Lothian. Hub South East Scotland is delivering the project, with GRAHAM Construction carrying out the building work.

  £35,000 boost for FlexMedical Solutions
 
   
  FlexMedical Solutions has been awarded £35,000 from the West Lothian Economic Growth Plan (WLEGP) to help it to move into new premises in Livingston and support its plans to create eight new jobs. While it is a relatively young company, FlexMedical Solutions has big ambitions and it is determined to deliver best-in-class levels of service to the life sciences sector.

  Major Road Closure on A89
 
   
  West Lothian Council is advising drivers of a road closure on the A89 from Boghall Roundabout to the Tesco Distribution Centre which is likely to cause some disruption. This closure is necessary to allow essential carriageway re-surfacing to take place.  Work will start on Monday 8 August for two weeks and it is expected to be completed by Sunday 21 August. A sign-posted diversion route will be in operation.
 
   
       
   
     
  Residents move into latest council homes 
 
   
  Fourteen new council homes have been completed at Pumpherston. The site at Pumpherston marks an important milestone for West Lothian Council’s 1,000 new council homes project, as the site is the first of many sites to be completed. West Lothian Council is building new homes in each of the nine council ward areas. The Pumpherston site consists of a mix of one- and two-bedroom cottage flats and bungalows. The bungalows are suitable for people with disabilities to access.

  Livingston’s top restaurant receives Food Awards nomination 
 
   
  West Lothian College’s The Terrace Restaurant has once again been shortlisted for the Food Awards Scotland 2016. The award winning restaurant has been shortlisted in the Restaurant of the Year category for the South East region. The Terrace was selected as a finalist after receiving a high number of votes from members of the public. The Terrace Restaurant is situated within West Lothian College’s Livingston campus and is open to the public for lunches and dinners during term time.

West Lothian Write, Hosted by Ellie Stewart   Friday 19 August, Howden Park Centre
 

Enjoy an evening of poetry, reading and storytelling by West Lothian Writers. Guest host Ellie Stewart is currently developing Gala with Playwrights’ Studio Scotland and also works with writers’ collectives and youth theatres. This session is an opportunity to present a short piece of writing (up to six minutes) in a supportive environment. We recommend that you practise and time your reading, as the event is very popular and reading places are limited. Please book in advance to guarantee a performance slot and inform the box office if you intend to read.  Friday 19 August 7pm Tickets £3.50 Age 16+

The Stones bring to the stage all the energy and excitement of a live Rolling Stones concert.  A band made up of talented musicians who truly love the music, this is not a tribute of caricatures. The group kick out the music with the same loose but tight feel as the real band. The greatest rock and roll band in the world, could this be their greatest tribute? Saturday 27 August, 7.30pm. Free swimming during the school holidays   Until Monday 22 August
 

Xcite and West Lothian Council's free swimming programme for young people aged 15 and under and living in West Lothian is available at facilities across West Lothian until Monday 22 August 2016. Sessions are available from 10am to 4pm, Monday to Friday throughout the summer holidays, at Xcite pools in Armadale, Bathgate, Broxburn, Linlithgow, Livingston, and Whitburn, as well as West Lothian Council pools in Deans and Inveralmond Community High Schools, and Fauldhouse Partnership Centre. Free swimming is available for one session per day per person (max 1 hour). Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Limited spaces are available. Terms and Conditions apply.
