  Best ever exam results for West Lothian.
 
     
 

West Lothian pupils have achieved their best ever set of exam results this year. Hard work by pupils across West Lothian saw them surpass last year’s figures to record West Lothian’s most successful set of Higher results in 2016. Early indications show that the amount of pupils achieving five and three Highers in West Lothian have both risen by 2% to 22% and 40% respectively, with Armadale Academy and Whitburn Academy showing significant increases, and Broxburn Academy and Inveralmond Community High School in Livingston continuing to build on their strong showing in last year’s exam results.

  First holiday lunch clubs served up 
 
   
  Children from all over West Lothian have had a feast of fun at the council’s first ever free holiday lunch and activity clubs. Over 300 children have registered to take part in seven clubs across West Lothian, which aimed to deliver nutritious meals and fun activities during the school holidays. This compares favourably with results achieved in other areas of Scotland and the UK.

  Milestone for flagship employment programme 
 
   
  West Lothian Council’s ground-breaking StepsN2work programme has helped more than 1,000 young people into the jobs market.
StepsN2work has a range of schemes designed to help local young people aged from 16 to 24 to get their foot on the job ladder. These include: Modern Apprenticeships and Graduate work experience within the council, as well as six-month paid training opportunities and a Wage Subsidy scheme with local employers.

  Almost £90,000 for community youth projects.
 
   
  West Lothian Council has approved funding of £89,931 from the Alcohol Diversionary Fund to support six local youth community projects. To receive funding, activities should be closely tied with outcomes that have a wider impact on drinking behaviour, with the intention that commissioned services should contribute to reducing anti-social behaviour, delivery of one-to-one alcohol brief interventions and changing group attitudes to drinking

Bathgate Music Festival   Thurs 1- Sun 4 September
 
The eighth annual Bathgate Music Festival takes place at venues across the town from 1 to 4 September.
If you like music, whether it is traditional, folk, blues, country, 60s, musicals or classical,  there’s something for you and many of the events are free. 
A fantastic weekend of live music will be brought to a close at the Party in the Park family fun day in Kirkton Park on Sunday 4 September from 11am.

Linlithgow Folk Festival
  Wed 7 - Sun 11 September 
 
Multi-award-winning traditional musicians, The Outside Track, are set to headline the 18th annual festival.
The concert on Saturday 10 September in Linlithgow Academy Theatre will be the high point of the five-day event, which also includes a musical cruise on the canal, a family ceilidh, the Hub at the Masonic Hall, a Bluegrass concert and Gospel session and outdoor stage at the Cross. Many of the events are free.
