  Southdale Primary ready to open

An open day was held at the new Southdale Primary School in Armadale this week, which opens its doors for the first time when schools return on Tuesday, 23 August. 
The council has invested £7.5 million to build the new school, which will provide quality education for Armadale’s growing population. Click on the link to view our short video, or visit for more details.

  Apply now for school transport  
  Parents and carers are being reminded to make sure they have applied for school transport, if they have not already done so. West Lothian Council is currently working through issuing passes to children across the area, and anyone who wishes transport and hasn't applied should do so immediately. A number of changes to school transport across West Lothian are also being implemented from the start of the new school term following a review, which has led to unfortunate delays for some applicants.

  St Helen’s Place refurb
Work is nearing completion on a £325,000 scheme to improve council housing at St Helen’s Place in Armadale. The West Lothian Council project has drastically improved the building’s exterior. The project also includes landscaping works which will create a ramp from the street to allow easy access. The paved courtyard surface will be replaced due to its condition and the uneven levels.

  Broxburn Gala Day
  The Broxburn Gala Day parade is due to set off from Wyndford Avenue at 12noon tomorrow, 20 August. The theme will be yesteryear which will feature many guests dressed to bring nostalgia to the event. It is hoped to have as many past gala queens as possible take part with this year's gala queen being Megan MacDonald, from Kirkhill Primary School.

  New council homes in East Calder get underway
  Work is currently underway to develop new council homes in East Calder.
The project at Raw Holdings includes the construction of twelve cottage flats, one two-bedroom house and two bungalows. The homes should be completed by next spring.The council is building 1,000 new council homes across the nine council ward areas to help satisfy the demand for affordable housing in West Lothian and enhance communities.

Howden Park Centre 
An insightful talk from some of Howden Park Centre’s current exhibiting artists.  ‘From a Distance’ is a unique exhibition featuring mixed media and installation pieces from ten Chinese artists living in the UK and China.  Gain a rare insight into the creation of the works, followed by a question and answer session.

  Autumn/Winter 2016 Howden Park Centre

Linlithgow Folk Festival
  Wed 7 - Sun 11 September
Multi-award-winning traditional musicians, The Outside Track, are set to headline the 18th annual festival.
The concert on Saturday 10 September in Linlithgow Academy Theatre will be the high point of the five-day event, which also includes a musical cruise on the canal, a family ceilidh, the Hub at the Masonic Hall, a Bluegrass concert and Gospel session and outdoor stage at the Cross. Many of the events are free.

Bathgate Music Festival   Thurs 1- Sun 4 September
The eighth annual Bathgate Music Festival takes place at venues across the town from 1 to 4 September.
If you like music, whether it is traditional, folk, blues, country, 60s, musicals or classical,  there’s something for you and many of the events are free. A fantastic weekend of live music will be brought to a close at the Party in the Park family fun day in Kirkton Park on Sunday 4 September from 11am.
