  Exam success at Linlithgow Academy  

The new sixth-year pupils at Linlithgow Academy have been celebrating their recent exam success. Hard-working pupils from the school have delivered a fantastic set of results, including an amazing 33 students who achieved five or more A results in their Highers.
The number of pupils at Linlithgow achieving five or more Highers has risen to 47%, with the numbers of students who achieved three Highers and one Higher also rising to 66% and 77% respectively.

  Pupils are benefiting from new 'Stepping On' course  
  Stepping on A new employability programme 'Stepping On' has been introduced for West Lothian secondary school pupils in S4 to S6. The programme will initially see 20 pupils from nine secondary schools across West Lothian meet up at Bathgate Academy once a week during the academic year 2016/17. The aim of the course is to help the pupils to gain new skills which will help them to gain work or training when they leave school.

  West Lothian Council confirms improvements to local bus services  
  council logo Improvements are being made to a number of local council-supported bus services. Earlier this year West Lothian Council made a commitment to review the introduction of new bus service routes and timetables. Since then the council has monitored the implementation of the new routes and timetables.

  New school work leads to path closure  
  A section of path between West Calder and Polbeth is set to close to allow work to start on the new £32 million West Calder High School. Diversions will be in place from Monday 19 September until July 2018 on the pathway network east of the Parkhead area of West Calder. The stretch of path is well-used by local residents including dog walkers and cyclists, and the closure is necessary as the path runs through the construction site of the new West Calder High School.

  Holiday Lunch and Activity Clubs are given the thumbs up  
  Holiday club West Lothian Council's first summer Holiday Lunch and Activity Clubs, which ran in seven venues during the school holidays, have been hailed a great success. The clubs ran over five weeks during the summer holidays at five primary schools and with partners through the Boghall Drop In Centre Sunshine Club, which used Boghall Primary School to provide activities to children resident in the Boghall area; and the Riverside Play Scheme which used Riverside Primary School to provide activities to children resident in the Craigshill area.

New mountain bike skills area is open at Beecraigs Country Park   Open all year, free
The new bike skills loop at Beecraigs Country Park is open. The Skills Loop is located adjacent to the Lochside car park. Mountain biking can be a dangerous activity and riders must be aware of their personal capabilities before setting off on the trails or the skills loop area.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday 6 October at West Lothian Ability Centre, Carmondean Centre Road, Livingston. The speakers will be Barbara Mayne & Lisa Egan - Senior Nurses from Urology at the Western General Hospital Edinburgh. Topic: History of clinical trials and latest developments & selection programme. The meeting will provide an opportunity for recently-diagnosed men concerned about treatment choice to have an informal chat with other men who have already experienced the various treatments and side effects.
