  Eliburn Olympic Games  

Service users at Eliburn Day Centre decided they didn't want to be left out of the excitement of the Rio Paralympics by staging their very own Eliburn Olympic Games. Participants competed in a number of activities including an Opening and Closing Ceremony with music, dance and mascots.   The week-long event was organised by Eliburn Support Services. The talented service users displayed their determination, strength and resilience to express themselves in many sporting activities.

  New library service pops up in Stoneyburn  
  A new pop-up library service has opened in Stoneyburn.  This is the second pop-up library to open.  The first was opened earlier this year in Winchburgh and is proving to be very popular. Library members will be able to visit the new pop-up service for books and information.

  Facelift for skatepark thanks to Youth Inclusion Project  
  A popular skatepark has been given a facelift thanks to big-hearted volunteers from West Lothian Youth Inclusion Project (YIP). After a busy spell during the holidays, the skatepark was in need of some rejuvenation and protection from the elements. The young volunteers from YIP volunteered to help Winchburgh Community Council by painting the skatepark.

  West Lothian Council wins excellence award for new council house build  

West Lothian Council has picked up a prestigious accolade at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Awards in the Best Housing, Regeneration or New Build Initiative, beating-off stiff competition from six other local authorities to secure the award. Council services were also shortlisted in two further categories for Best Service Team: Building Cleaning and Facilities Management Service and Best Service Team: Parks, Grounds & Horticultural Service.

  Young golfers bring home the Gallacher Cup  
  Six West Lothian school pupils, who are part of the council's Excellence in School Sport Programme (ESSP), won the Gallacher Cup golf tournament on their recent visit to Grapevine, Texas. The trip was part of the council's twinning arrangement with Grapevine which aims to foster friendship, hospitality and understanding between the communities including history, heritage, culture, the arts, sport, commerce, education, science and technology.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday 6 October at West Lothian Ability Centre, Carmondean Centre Road, Livingston. The speakers will be Barbara Mayne and Lisa Egan - Senior Nurses from Urology at the Western General Hospital Edinburgh. The meeting will provide an opportunity for recently-diagnosed men concerned about treatment choice to have an informal chat with other men who have already experienced the various treatments and side effects.
