  Dedication of new Almondell Cemetery, East Calder  

The official opening of the first phase of the new Almondell Cemetery in East Calder was marked by a special dedication service which brought together representatives from the local community councils, religious and non-religious leaders, councillors, council officials and staff.
The opening was performed by Executive Councillor for the Environment Tom Conn, while the service was performed by Mrs Ruhy Parris who is co-convenor for Edinburgh Interfaith Association, who recited a Baha'i Prayer, and Dr Andre Groenewald, Minister for East Calder and Kirknewton, who provided a psalm reading.

  Anniversary launch for Fairtrade Directory  
  This year West Lothian Fairtrade Steering Group has reached its fifth anniversary of gaining Fairtrade Zone Status and joins Bathgate Town Group which is celebrating its fifth anniversary. Livingston is also marking its 10th anniversary this year and Linlithgow has been a Fairtrade Town for more than a decade.

  West Lothian Advice Shop provides a range of services for local households including energy advice for local households, free benefit checks, help with claiming benefits, budgeting advice, help to manage debt and supporting people who want to appeal benefit decisions.  During the last year, the Advice Shop has improved the financial circumstances of more than 14,000 West Lothian residents by more than £27 million.

West Calder Library opened following £500,000 modernisation

Members of West Calder community joined in the celebrations to mark the opening of the refurbished library, which is also home to the council's Customer Information Service and the Breich Valley Housing Office. Pupils from Parkhead Primary School were entertained by author and illustrators Lynn McNicol and Laura Jackson, the team behind the Badger the Mystical Mutt series of illustrated children's books.

  Historic image makeover for Linlithgow's communal bins  
  Residents in areas of Linlithgow are set to take part in a unique trial which will see new decorated communal bins introduced this week. The introduction of the attractive new communal bins coincides with West Lothian Council’s introduction of slim grey bins, which are being introduced in Linlithgow this week. West Lothian Council is removing the current 240 litre grey bins from householders and replacing them with new 140 litre grey bins.

Beecraigs Country Park   Open all year, free
The new mountain bike skills course, which opened recently, is proving to be very popular with the local cycling community. While five Shetland sheep and two North Ronaldsay  sheep are settling into the animal attraction.  At this time of year the stags are getting ready to rut and can be seen in the fields practice fighting. If you visit the park on a clear day there are great views across to the Forth estuary, Bridges and Edinburgh from the viewing platform.
